For anyone that has never watched Beauty and the Beast, it's a reality show that throws together 2 people from completely different worlds (for two weeks)judged by society for the way they look. One person is severely disfigured the other person is completely self-obsessed with their looks.
The episode I watched today featured 21 year old Holly, who is a glamour model who has regular botox injections and 27 year Nelly who was born with Harlequin Ichthyosis, a rare skin condition, which makes her look like a burns victim.
Holly's whole world is built around the way she looks and there is little time in her life to focus on who she is on the inside. The friendship they develop helps Holly to realise the importance of focusing on her inner self as well as her outer appearance towards the end of the two weeks.
Nelly's whole world is built around caring for her life threatning skin condition. These two women couldn't be anymore different, but what i really liked was the unlikely friendship that developed between the two. Nelly is a truly inspiring and beautiful young woman and that's why i felt the need to write a post about the show.
Nelly is completely selfless and doesn't really talk about the negative aspects of her life threatening condition, instead she dedicates her time on the show to make Holly realise the image she is portraying is fake and will never make her happy.

What this show highlights is the pressure society places on young people to look "perfect" and we are all a victims of it. I can't remember the last time i read a magazine with subjects focusing on "Loving yourself unconditionally" "accepting who you are" and appreicaitng everyday you are alive. Instead its all about how to get the perfect abs, have the perfect tan and have perfect hair.
This show reminded me of how lucky i am to be healthy and alive, and sometimes you get caught up in everyday LIFE and you forget whats really important - Family, friends,Health!
Don't get me wrong, i still love fashion, make-up and my hair extensions, but the time effort I make on looking good for a night out with the girls, i need to make sure that the same amount of effort is made for my inner self!
Beauty and the Beast comes on every Tuesday @ 8pm on Channel 4. Don't forget to watch it and let me know what you think?
