Best moments in 2014
2014 has been one heck of a year, so I thought I'd share with you what I believe to be the most iconic moments in 2014.
1. Luptia Nyong'o made Hollywood realise Black is beautiful.
This lady is killing the game! In 2014 she won Critics Choice Awards Best Supporting Actress award, she scored the cover of People's "Most Beautiful" issue making her the second black woman (after Beyonce in 2012) to appear on the front cover of the magazine, at the Essence magazine Black Woman in Hollywood Breakthrough Award And delivered an amazing speech about how long it took her to realise the beauty of her own skin . This lady has changed the destiny for many women of colour and i look forward to seeign what else she'll be achieving in years to come.Luptia Nyong'o - 5 iconic moments |
2. A Black James Bond
Rumours that Idris Elba could be the next James Bond made my year! Some of the Hollywood big wigs haven't reacted too well to the news, but its made me smile! There's even a Facebook Fan page which has gathered over 32,000 likes. I'm a James Bond fab and Idris Elba fan so this would make the perfect combination.

3. The passing of an incon Maya Angelou
The amazing American author, poet, dancer, actress and singer passed away 28th May 2014. There was nothing this woman couldn't do,she was a civil rights activist, a poet, a singer and actress, a writer and so much more. Through who her beautiful poetry, this woman taught me to love myself..."You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise."

4. Malala Yousafzai is one young lady from who rocks!
Now living in Birmingham (UK) she became the youngest person in the world in 2014 to recieve the Nobel Peace Prize. She stood up to the Taliban by campaigning for the rights of all children to remain in education. But unfortuanetly was shot in the head by the Taliban for her campaigning work. She recieved the Nobel Peace Prize for all her hard work and autobiography "I Am Malala" which was released last year.5. Celebrities, atheletes came together to take a stand
Innocent people have been dying at the hands of police brutality for years, but following the increased number of unarmed black men and boys getting killed by police during 2014, everyone had enough!- Unarmed Ezell Ford was fatally shot and killed by Cops during August 2014
- 12 year old Tamir Rice was fatally shot by cops November 2014
- Unarmed John Crawford lll was killed during August 2012
- Unarmed black teenager called Michael Brown in Ferguson, was fatally killed
- Unarmed father of-six, Eric Garner was killed in July 2014
I'm always complaning that celebrities could be using their influence to spread positive messages and In 2014 that happened.
Missouri police officer Darren Wilson
Many figures in music chose to use their influence to address the killings of unarmed black men by police officers. Artists like Tyrese, Talib Kweli, Jeezy and J. Cole went down to the city to assist residents in person, Common held a moment of silence at the VMAs and Erykah Badu and many others voiced their support over social media. I dont recall seeing this many celebrities coming to gether to spread one message and echoed the importance of strength in numbersWale,Chris Brown, Nelly, LiL Mama and Bow Wow hold up their hands in support of the protests |
