Five things i've discovered about Nelson Mandela
Hello my urban beauties,
I'm sorry, its been so long since my last blog post, and a hell of a lot has happened over the last few weeks. With Nelson Mandela passing, I'm still in shock! I know he was 90 but when someone is that great, you kinda of expect them to live forever, anyway i thought it was only right to dedicate this post to the great man himself. Check out these five facts I've discovered about Nelson Mandela.
1. Nelson Mandela was born Rolihlahla Mandela on 18 July 1918. He was later given the name Nelson by a teacher at school.
2. Nelson Mandela studied law at Fort Hare University, but was expelled from the University of Fort Hare after joining a student protest. He later completed his degree through Unisa, which he followed up with a law degree from Wits University. He later went on to set up South Africa's first black law firm alongside Oliver Tambo, to help people affected by apartheid laws.
3. In 1944, Nelson Mandela joined the African National Congress or (ANC). The ANC wanted black South Africans to have the same human rights as whites. After his release, In 1991, Mandela became leader of the ANC.
4. Mandela admired Gandhi, who had used peaceful protest in India.
5. In the 1994 elections, all black people in South Africa were able to vote for the first time. The ANC won the election. A new government took over. In May 1994, Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first black president.
This man changed lives and is a inspiration for people all over the world. He will always be my hero
